From Classroom to the Real World
Fangirl the Magazine originated from a magazine publishing class I took during my masters program at Mizzou. The magazine was designed to be a place of community and empowerment for female gamers, offering Q&As, game reviews, profiles, features and more.
After graduation, it became a real, living digital magazine. With the help of grant funding from the University of Missouri, my colleagues and I ran it for about three years while working full-time jobs. My responsibilities included: orchestrating digital content for 1,850 unique monthly views, curating freelance writers, and maintaining the financial budget.
